Kerr County GOP Hand Count Effort Featured in Local News
In a strong show of commitment to election integrity, Kerr County Republicans prepared a dedicated team of hand counters for the May 26 Primary Runoff. The effort was led by Sharon Agold, who had begun training volunteers back in January for the Republican Primary.
Although the full hand count could not be implemented for the primary due to logistical challenges, Agold’s team of 78 trained volunteers stood ready for the runoff. The group practiced procedures at workshops, including one held at Grace Bible Chapel on May 16.
The Kerr County GOP hand counters tallied Election Day votes only at four polling locations. Early voting and mail in ballots were counted through conventional methods.
Agold highlighted the importance of the initiative, citing concerns over foreign components in election equipment. She and the team advocated for American-made replacements and verifiable processes until full confidence could be restored. The hand count followed established procedures in Chapter 65 of the Texas Election Code.
Volunteers worked in teams of five, with trained judges overseeing the process. Tally sheets were signed and verified at each step, with recounts performed if discrepancies arose. Many participants generously donated their modest pay ($8/hour for counters, $12/hour for judges) back to support the effort.
